COURTS
Mike Myers finally got the Dieter monkey off his back.
After a series of lawsuits over Myers' refusal to make the film
Dieter, the feuding parties issued a statement Aug. 10 that they
had ''reached a mutual resolution'' in which Myers will star in an
as-yet-undetermined project coproduced by Universal, DreamWorks,
and Imagine Entertainment ... Combative musician-actress
Courtney Love, 36, was slapped with a lawsuit Aug. 15 by
Background Productions for alleged defamation on the set of
Beat, a biopic of the late William S. Burroughs. In the suit,
one female Background employee claims Love barred her from the
set and humiliated her by calling her a puta Spanish for
''whore.'' Love could not be reached for comment ... On Aug. 15,
O.J. Simpson, 53, sued author Lawrence Schiller (who helped
write his memoir I Want to Tell You) and his former lawyer
Robert Kardashian in an attempt to block the upcoming CBS
miniseries based on Schiller's other O.J. tome, American
Tragedy. The suit alleges the book and miniseries use privileged
information from Simpson's murder trial without permission. The
L.A. Superior Court declined Simpson's request to stop
production; he still seeks punitive damages. Schiller's lawyer
declined to comment; Kardashian couldn't be reached.
