Website Review: 'Amon Tobin — Supermodified'

EW's GRADE
B

Two turntables and a mixer weren't standard office supplies — until DJ Amon Tobin coded the keyboard-compatible sequencer on Amon Tobin — Supermodified (www.ninjatune.net/ninja/artists/amontobin/index2.html). The site's opening Flash 4 sequence is pretentiously sci-groovy, but let your mouse land on the tiny box that says ''Supermodified v1.0'' and your QWER keys get loaded with drum riffs, rhino samples, and wailing keyboard loops. The catch: The sounds aren't coordinated, so the timing of your finger-licks makes the difference between a break beat and a broken one. B
