Music Review: 'Bamboozled' (2012)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Lead Performance: Various Artists; Genre: Soundtracks

The music to Spike Lee's latest cinematic spoof Bamboozled is no joke. Call it a musical Talented Tenth: Stevie Wonder, Prince, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, Chuck D, the Roots, Goodie Mob, etc. Lots of impressive tracks but the effort needs a tighter thematic thread. Cuts like the in-your-face ''Burned Hollywood Burned'' hark back to the mid-'80s political rap scene while soulful, jazzy send-ups like Badu's ''Hollywood'' speak to today's groove theories. B+
