The credits on the Louisiana guitar slinger Sonny Landreth's fifth album are cause for alarm: It was coproduced by that purveyor of TV-theme-song cheese, Mike ''Hill Street Blues'' Post. Is Landreth watering down his Cajun-inflected roots rock? Not a bit. On Levee Town, he sticks resolutely to his retro path. A bona fide guitar hero, he's an increasingly good songwriter, too songs like ''Deep South'' and the title track probe Dixie and its myths with curiosity and quiet wit. B+
