Like Field of Dreams before it, Frequency, a pleasantly mawkish fantasy about a Queens cop (Caviezel) reunited with his long-dead fireman dad (Quaid) via sunspot-enhanced ham radio will surely become a rental staple for grown men who want an excuse to cry. Only later will they realize they've been treated to the rather odd spectacle of a father and son bonding over a grisly serial-murder case not to mention the most elliptical timeline-twisting since Back to the Future II. That's forgivable. The Garth Brooks musical finale is not. B
