PRINCE CHARMING
Jude Law may be taking to the skies as Antoine
de Saint-Exupery, the French aristocrat and WWII pilot who
penned Le Petit Prince. The $45 million biopic, which was put
into turnaround by Touchstone, has now been picked up by
Interlight; pay-or-play offers will be going out to actors
within the next month. Also on the shortlist to play the Saint
are (get ready to suspend disbelief) Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, and
Edward Norton. Regis Wargnier (East-West), making his
English-language film debut, will direct.
QUEEN FOR A DAY
In other royal news, Gwyneth Paltrow has
decided to take a bow in The Royal Tannenbaums, the newest
comedy to be directed by Wes Anderson, starring brothers Luke
and Owen Wilson. Others in the cast include Danny Glover, Ben
Stiller, and Bill Murray, who starred in Anderson's Rushmore.
ARTISTIC LICENSE
It's been a bit like watching paint dry, but
after years of development at Miramax, Salma Hayek's pet project,
a biopic of artist Frida Kahlo, is finally a go. Director Julie
Taymor (Titus, The Lion King) has signed on to helm the love
story about Kahlo and her husband, fellow artist Diego Rivera,
which is expected to begin filming in January. Filling out the
cast are Ashley Judd, Alfred Molina, Antonio Banderas, and
the busiest man in this week's column, Edward Norton.
