One of the great lost children's-anime series of the '80s, the French import The Mysterious Cities of Gold weaves together elements of the legend of El Dorado with young hero Esteban's quest to find his father. Consider it a worthy alternative to the animated feature-film mess The Road to El Dorado (and to Elton John's ridiculous musical numbers Gold 's air-puffed theme song is eminently more hummable). A
