DJs routinely present themselves as pop stars, but pop stars rarely become legitimate DJs. Everything But the Girl's Ben Watt and mixing partner Jay Hannan re-create their Lazy Dog club's soulful London vibe on the double CD Deep House Music Mixed by Ben Watt and Jay Hannan. The first disc mirrors Watt's lovelorn EBTG work, even floating familiar Tracey Thorn vocals over jazzy house tracks, while Hannan opts for a harder, less tribal Latin groove. The final effect is hypnotic, not narcotic. B+
