To resist this Euro-synthetic confection, made to Miramax-factory specs, is not worth the principle since, unless you're allergic to sugar or butterfat, it's as fudge-y as advertised. Juliette Binoche stars as a luscious stranger who blows into a chilly, pinched, pious 1950s French village and sets up shop making chocolate confections that arouse the gentry to a ''shocking'' preference for pleasure over abstinence.
