Hackman's a big-shot attorney detained by police captain (and old friend) Freeman when a couple of young women are raped and murdered in Puerto Rico. The interrogation that follows is a ponderous cat-and-mouse parlor piece that aspires to the creepy tension of Sleuth and the probing character study of My Dinner With Andre. No dice, as even these two masters (who are, as always, splendid) can't overcome Stephen Hopkins' logy, gimmick-laden direction. B-
