Alan Rudolph's screwball noir stars Watson as a rent-a-cop who, having stumbled upon a murder, undertakes some amateur sleuthing and transforms herself into a goofy gumshoe. For reasons not made clear, the filmmaker's forced his brilliant ensemble cast (which includes Lesley Ann Warren and Nick Nolte) to utter streams of silly/profound dialogue comprised of malapropisms and punny manglings (''She'd be a parasite for sore eyes.''). Trixie seems intended as Rudolph's answer to The Long Goodbye, but it just feels loooong. C-
