'Eye' of the Tiger

This week's best-sellers

Call it Koontz control. Mystery master Dean Koontz's new novel, From the Corner of His Eye (wielding a first printing of 500,000 copies), skyrockets to the top of the fiction list in its debut week. His climb to No. 1 can hardly come as a surprise to Koontz or his publisher, Bantam. The man's 38 books have sold 200 million copies worldwide. Perhaps the real suspense lies in just how long Koontz will remain king of the hill. Or if John le Carré, who jumps from No. 12 to No. 6 this week, will continue to earn the support of key reviewers and usurp the coveted throne.
