These books are headed for the movies

TRUE HISTORY OF THE KELLY GANG Peter Carey (Knopf, $25) Director Neil Jordan (The Crying Game) has optioned Carey's latest novel, about Australian folk hero Ned Kelly. Carey's Booker Prize-winning Oscar and Lucinda was made into a 1997 film.

PARIS TO THE MOON Adam Gopnik (Random House, $24.95) Gopnik sold rights to his collection of pieces about his life in Paris, an EW Best Book of 2000, to Miramax. The author has also signed on to write the movie's script.

BEE SEASON Myla Goldberg (Doubleday, $22.95) Debut novelist Goldberg's haunting tale of a young girl blessed, and sometimes cursed, with an extraordinary gift for spelling was picked up by Bona Fide Productions (Election) in conjunction with Fox Searchlight.
