Music Review: 'The Houseman Cometh'

EW's GRADE
C

Details Genre: R&B

And he should sticketh with his regular gig. As vocalist for the N'Awlins jammers Galactic, the Houseman adds a nice weathered rasp to the band's hard funk. He's no leader, though. From its rent-party throwaways (''You Came'') to boudoir blues (''I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know''), this solo debut empties the rack of R&B templates. Two new songs from soul man Dan Penn are no real revelation. The high point is a cover of KC and the Sunshine Band's ''I Get Lifted,'' which features several members of Galactic. C
