''Only part of the tour I like is the performance, that one hour I'm on stage -- that's it,'' admits DMX in this behind-the-scenes look at a hugely successful 1999 tour featuring superstar hip-hoppers like Jay-Z, DMX, Method Man, and Redman. ''The rest is hell.'' Same goes for Backstage, a numbing chronicle of road drudgery intercut with flashes of vitality from pulse-raising concert clips, which, maddeningly, always seem to cut out just as they're getting going. Otherwise, steel yourself for a parade of smoldering blunts, semi-clad groupies, and self-congratulatory interviews with assorted ego-saturated rap luminaries. Can I get a ''no thanks''? C+
