BLESS THE CHILD
Kim Basinger, Rufus Sewell (2000, Paramount, 107
mins., R, also on DVD)

Its decent cast notwithstanding, director Chuck Russell's (Eraser) supernatural thriller -- about a 6-year-old girl with miraculous powers who's threatened by evil Satan worshippers -- sinks under the weight of its predictable plot cliches and laughably clunky dialogue. Russell does his best to try to keep the audience's attention with flashy effects, but the absurdities are relentless. In short: damnable. D -- Caren Weiner Campbell
