'Scarlet Feather': Book Review

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Writer: Maeve Binchy

This charming, often funny novel from the author of Circle of Friends and Tara Road centers on Dublin catering colleagues Cathy Scarlet and Tom Feather. Their first company has hit the ground running, and it's all they can do to keep up with the ensuing whirlwind of weddings, parties, and lunches. But all the while, Tom's ambitious girlfriend is making noises about crossing the Irish Sea into London modeling life, and Cathy's husband, an otherwise politically correct civil rights lawyer, is becoming ever more patronizing about his wife's ''hobby.'' Binchy's taste for compelling interpersonal politics, one of her specialties, adds heft to what would otherwise be a very light buffet. B+
