Details Lead Performance: Swag

Take members from Wilco, the Mavericks, Sixpence None the Richer, and Cheap Trick, hole them up in Nashville, and you get something approaching a pop-rock masterpiece. Sound unlikely? Listen to Trick's Tom Petersson howl through ''I'll Get By'' or the massed harmonies on the hard-rocking ''Please Don't Tell'' and you'll know Swag has some wondrously eclectic, Merseybeat-meets-the-Flamin'-Groovies mojo working. If all the kids who bought the Beatles' 1 bought Catchall, too, guitar-powered pop would be in great shape.
