Lead Performance: Joshua Redman Quartet; Genre: Jazz
--
Redman doesn't swing as far out as his dad, fellow saxist Dewey, did (and still does). Rather, he seems intent on showing just how broad and fertile an expanse jazz's mainstream has become. This long-form suite plays like a well-paced club set. Redman's quartet values interplay over solo space, and the saxophonist, a decade into his career, still possesses a questing sound. B+
