This low-budget suburban fable about an overgrown slacker boy (Marc Palmieri) and his pilgrim's progress toward manhood will ring familiar to fans of Hal Hartley, but writer-director David Maquiling has a gentler touch. By the climactic scene, in which the hero drubs a loser version of himself silly with a giant pink kiddie baseball bat, Too Much Sleep has achieved a mood of lovely, comic aplomb.
