Aided by producer Mark Wright (Lee Ann Womack), Brooks & Dunn start out sounding as if they're rarin' to go. Trouble is, they wind down quickly. The turbo-tonk numbers on Steers & Stripes sound like retreads, and too few songs engage the heart and head. Still, Ronnie Dunn remains the most emotive balladeer in Nashville (''Ain't Nothing 'Bout You''), and get a load of this: Kix Brooks has learned to sing!
