Somebody call Ken Burns — the commies are trying to stamp out jazz! It's hard to believe, but not too long ago choosing an American like Dizzy Gillespie as a role model was a dangerous political choice for a Cuban musician. In For Love or Country, a biopic of trumpeter extraordinaire Arturo Sandoval, Garcia hits a career high note as a man whose penchant for what the Cuban government calls musica non grata actually puts him and his family in peril. Added bonus: Charles S. Dutton's wailing portrayal of Gillespie, which is real, real gone, daddy-o.
