THE WB
THE GOOD By not splurging on Buffy, the six-year-old netlet (a
division of EW parent AOL Time Warner) is now on target to turn
its first profit next year. The WB is also sending a message to
other shows up for renegotiation (namely, Dawson's Creek) that it
won't pay the moon to keep them.
THE BAD Hits are hard to come
by. And who will replace Gellar as the face of the network? 7th
Heaven's Happy the dog?
VERDICT A sucky PR move, but possibly a
shrewd business decision.
THE FANS
THE GOOD Buffy buffs are guaranteed two more seasons in
Sunnydale.
THE BAD Fans living in St. Louis and several other
markets without a UPN station get the shaft. "We're in mourning,"
sighs Mark Parfitt, 22, of UPN-less State College, Pa. "What can
we do? Make road trips to some place that has UPN? It's
devastating."
VERDICT If you live in a final frontier where no
UPN affiliate has gone before, well, there's always Charmed.
