Just before his death, the ex-Mama and Papa readied for release one of rock's notorious lost albums -- a '70s collaboration with Mick, Keith, and sundry Stones. Alas, there's a reason this sat in the vaults so long. Phillips' lyrics about topless joints, teen jailbait, and overall decadence are probably true to his drug-addled lifestyle at the time, but his raspy voice and seedy country-blues shuffles make for arduous listening. Sadly, the album is more a tribute to Phillips' decline than to his talent. C-
