Director Bruce Paltrow probably had plenty of reasons to pass on this cross-country karaoke-themed drama -- the most obvious being that it's a cross-country karaoke-themed drama. As three pairs of starry-eyed social misfits (including Huey Lewis and the director's blonder, more famous offspring) head to a sing-off out West, they bounce from bar to bar, evading their pasts -- and, after a roadside murder, the law -- as much as possible. Stuffed with thinly constructed characters and glaringly predictable story arcs, Duets hits all the wrong notes. C-
