THE GLAM SLAM METAL JAM 2001
LINEUP Poison, Warrant, Quiet Riot and Enuff Z'Nuff; Mötley Crüe's Vince Neil, Great White, and Bullet Boys will play some dates.
LOWDOWN Big hair, lotsa makeup, sparse talent--it's the Miss Universe pageant! Uh, no, it's actually the next step in the hair-rock revival, and it's giving '80s heroes a chance to retake the stage.
WHY THEY THINK YOU SHOULD GO "The overenergetic live show, the stage show, the confetti, the pyro--it's sorta like the Sex Pistols meets Kiss on acid," says Poison frontman Bret Michaels. "And if all else fails, the backstage party will rock."
WHY WE THINK YOU SHOULD GO To relive the days when empty-headed pop musicians still played instruments and man-made fabrics were the rage. And if all else fails, we're told the backstage party will rock.
WHY IT'S COOLER THAN THE MADONNA TOUR "There's no choreographed dancing and prerecorded music at our shows," says Michaels. More importantly, you wouldn't get in to Madonna's backstage party.
DATES The hair ball gets rolling in Amarillo, Tex., on May 23 and ends up at the Minnesota State Fair grandstand in St. Paul on Aug. 25.
