Blame It on Me

Details Lead Performance: Alana Davis

''I am 32 flavors and then some,'' sings 23-year-old newcomer Alana Davis, covering Ani DiFranco. That may be overstating matters, but the 12 songs on this impressive debut, Blame It on Me, do add up to a rather savory stylistic mélange. Projecting the assurance of a seasoned chanteuse, Davis slides from plangent folk to jazzy pop to old-school R&B balladry with ease. She seems to have no interest in rocking out, but that's just fine: Blame's slow-burn incandescence is so perfect that any hint of histrionics would spoil it. A-
