The luster is back on the Golden Globes (5th). After being banished to cable a few years back, the telecast (airing this time on NBC) should now rank as the second-highest-rated awards show of the season, surpassed only by the Oscars. CBS whacked one-time Oscar nominee Danny Aiello's Dellaventura (85th), which drew less than half the viewership of its crime-time rival, ABC's NYPD Blue (12th). Meanwhile, NBC evicted the underperforming rookie sitcom Union Square (6th) from its Must See lineup. Also on Thursday, the debut of ABC's Prey (73rd) fell victim to NBC's Friends (3rd) and CBS' Promised Land (26th). But the sci-fi series fared better than the show that it replaced, Nothing Sacred (96th), which may need divine intervention to survive on ABC's Saturday slate with Cracker (105th).
