In Desperate Measures, Andy Garcia plays a cop whose sick son needs a bone-marrow transplant in order to survive; Michael Keaton is the vicious convicted murderer with the right DNA to be a donor but with a really bad attitude. The ludicrous ethical underpinnings of this numbingly inane thriller would, you think, be just the ticket for director Barbet Schroeder, but you'd think wrong: By the time the action degenerates into an old-fashioned car chase, you may wish you were watching General Hospital.
