Deep Rising is superior creature-feature junk: a tightly written, often howlingly funny underwater Aliens knockoff that, in its portrayal of tough men (Treat Williams, Wes Studi) and tougher women (Famke Janssen) under pressure, favorably recalls the work of Howard Hawks. At least until the last third, when the impulse to blow everything up takes over. B-
