99th Dream

EW's GRADE
B

Details Lead Performance: Swervedriver; Genre: Rock

On 99th Dream, their first U.S. release in five (!) years, England's Swervedriver downplay their one-time penchant for full-on six-string massacres, opting instead for a subtler sound built on layers of acoustic/ electric jangle and fuzz. The sheer heaviness of the old Swervies is much missed, but even on cruise control the band has a singular intensity, not to mention a sharp sense of songcraft. Is it time for a dream-pop revival yet? B
