As a senator's aide who's dispatched to Ireland to locate her boss' distant relatives for a touching reelection photo op — but instead winds up trapped in a local matchmaking festival — irrepressible wiseacre Garofalo seems continually on the verge of tossing the script of The Matchmaker, this frothy romantic comedy into the County Galway distance and improvising her way into a tougher, funnier movie. Yes, her goofy-in-love smile is fetching, but here you can almost feel her gritting her teeth through it. No more Sandra Bullock roles, please. C-
