SUBZERO With the voices of Kevin Conroy, Michael Ansara, Loren Lester, Efrem Zimbalist Jr. (1997, Warner, animated, unrated, $19.98) For a tiny fraction of the estimated $100 million budget of 1997's underachieving Batman & Robin, director-cowriter Boyd Kirkland more or less remakes that film's plot for the cartoon version, adding a few useful characters, tweaking the ending -- and coming up with a far better movie. And while Joel Schumacher's gonzo spectacle was touted for its visuals, this 70-minute production is luscious to look at in its own way, with its lantern-jawed, wide-bodied heroes, 1940s fashions and architecture, and dynamic action sequences. What's more, when Batgirl falls into Mr. Freeze's clutches, she shows she has a body and a brain. A-
