VARIOUS ARTISTS The Players Club (A&M) This album accompanying the Ice Cube-directed film is smartly sequenced and surprisingly cohesive, which is more than you can say for most song-driven soundtracks these days. Unfortunately, it isn't particularly good. Cube has gathered an impressive cast of rappers to chime in on the album, including Jay-Z, Master P, and Rufus Blaq, but they all trot out moldy gangsta-rap cliches over mind-numbingly boring beats.
