Details Lead Performance: Mono

Much like Portishead before them, this British duo beautifully exploits trip-hop's woozy, cinematic vibe, thanks to seasoned studio hand Martin Virgo (Bjork, Massive Attack). The real treat on Formica Blues, however, is Siobhan DeMare's sumptuous, seductive vocals, which pull this debut from the brink of torpor and channel Petula Clark's pop-friendly purr. A-
