Lead Performance: Ebba Forsberg
B

''Lost Count,'' the enervated, trampled-underfoot ballad that's also the first single by this Swedish singer-composer, sets the tone for the rest of her debut. In a benumbed calm, Forsberg enunciates sister Kajsa Ribbing's lyrics about low self-esteem, fizzled hopes and romances, and emotional scars; ''You Surprise Me'' is about thinking so little of yourself that you're shocked, shocked, by an ex-lover's continued interest. The music is equally unprepossessing — rooted in tremulous pianos and percussion, much of it feels like Sade demos. Been There is agreeable, modestly arresting folk-pop, but Madonna needs to chat with her latest signing about self-worth. B
