Long labeled a '60s revivalist, Davies does away with many of his most obvious retro-isms here on Telegraph. He still stubbornly clings to an affection for old-fashioned songcraft, though, and these beautifully constructed, subtly arranged songs are full of intricate harmonies and understated detail, from pianist Joe McGinty's light-touch tinkling right down to the clear, delicate sound of the cymbals.
