Ever wonder what Rod Stewart sounded like at age 9? Probably something like Cerys Matthews, the throaty frontwoman for Welsh quintet Catatonia. At times on Equally Cursed and Blessed, the band is cursed by a fondness for winking melodrama, but when the focus is on pop hooks and Matthews' charismatic croak — as on the irresistible single, ''Road Rage'' — the results are blessed indeed.
