Details Lead Performance: Various Artists

Producers Rick Chertoff and Rob Hyman have amassed a motley assortment of artists including Cyndi Lauper, Joan Osborne, and Taj Mahal to conjure an evocative modern meditation on early Americana. Although this song cycle of contemporary frontier ballads, Appalachian reels, and work songs is loosely inspired by Dvorak's New World Symphony, it's musical signposts point to The Band's early work. Largo is a highly imaginative, and frequently moving, album. B+
