THE HANGING GARDEN (R) William (Chris Leavins) is a gay, formerly overweight asthmatic; his father (Peter MacNeill) is an abusive alcoholic; his sister (Kerry Fox) married one of his ex-lovers; even the family dog's going blind. Writer-director Thom Fitzgerald wobbles between chilly comedy and overheated surrealist melodrama, but Troy Veinotte is heartbreakingly good as the obese teen William. B
