Mariah Carey and Derek Jeter Call It Quits

BIRTHS Melrose Place troublemaker Lisa Rinna, 32, and her actor husband, Harry Hamlin, 46, welcomed 6-pound 12-ounce Delilah Belle, June 10, in L.A. Hamlin has a son, Dmitri, 18, from a previous relationship with actress Ursula Andress, 62.... An 8-pound 15-ounce boy, Finley Cooper, to actor Corbin Bernsen (The Cape), 43, and his actress wife, Amanda Pays (Leviathan), 38, June 9, in Hampshire, England. This is their fourth child.

SPLITS Pop diva Mariah Carey, 28, and Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter, 24, called their much-publicized romance quits. "The media pressure was just too much for them," says Cindi Berger, Carey's spokesperson. Berger denies reports that the split is a ruse to keep the media away.... Just four months shy of their two-year anniversary, actor Gary Busey, 54, filed for divorce from his second wife, Tiani, citing irreconcilable differences, June 9, in L.A.

LAWSUITS Actor John Travolta, 44, filed a $5 million right-of-publicity suit against Silverado Films, June 9, in L.A. According to court papers, Silverado "wrongfully and intentionally published" two ads in USA Today on April 29 asserting that it was working with Travolta, which he denies. Silverado's lawyers couldn't be reached for comment.

PLEA BARGAIN Actor Daniel Baldwin, 37, pled guilty June 15 to a noncriminal charge of disorderly conduct in a case stemming from an alleged Feb. 2 cocaine binge at Manhattan's Plaza Hotel. Baldwin, who was ordered to spend three months in drug rehabilitation, had faced up to a year in jail for misdemeanor drug possession.

DEATHS Hugely popular self-help guru Leo Buscaglia, 74, of a heart attack, June 12, in Lake Tahoe, Calif. Buscaglia wrote more than a dozen motivational books, all on the theme of love's unifying power.... Former Oak Ridge Boys guitarist Steve Sanders, 45, of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, June 10, in Cape Coral, Fla.... Character actress Jeanette Nolan, 86, June 5, of a stroke, in L.A. Nolan starred in the TV series The Virginian from 1967 to '68 and most recently played Robert Redford's mother in The Horse Whisperer.... Actress Theresa Merritt, 75, of skin cancer, June 12, in New York City. Merritt played the title role in the '70s ABC TV series That's My Mama and also starred in August Wilson's play Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, for which she received a Tony nomination in 1985.
