With Hollywood's number crunchers debating whether Armageddon is a hit, you'd think the asteroid flick was a remake of Rashomon. While the movie managed to pull in a solid $36.1 million over the July 4 weekend, it fell short of the similarly themed Deep Impact's $41.2 million debut. And though the Touchstone release marked Disney's biggest live-action opening ever, at reportedly just under $200 million including marketing, it's also the studio's most expensive. Granted, most studios would kill to have this kind of qualified success, but many still feel that the film didn't capitalize on one of the most coveted weekends of the year -- when both Men in Black and Independence Day cleaned up the past two summers. If the glass is indeed half empty, at least the Mouse House has three other films in the top 10 this week: Mulan; Six Days, Seven Nights; and The Horse Whisperer.
