''Above and beyond a terrific talent, Alec has the one thing that's totally vital, and that's passion. He doesn't fool around with it, he throws himself into the character and plays with passion.'' -- JACK LEMMON

At heart, Baldwin, 40, is a character actor trapped in a movie star's body, though his gritty edge, growling delivery, and smooth-as-raw-silk charm make him a scene-stealing leading man, even in formulaic Hollywood fare. But we love him most as a bad guy -- Miami Blues' murderous wretch; Malice's devilish doctor -- roles that allow his remarkable gifts to shine brightest.

DON'T MISS: Miami Blues (1990), Glengarry Glen Ross (1992), The Edge (1997)

NEXT: Three indie dramas: Thick as Thieves; The Confession; and Outside Providence
