[The Artist formerly known as Prince]/NEW POWER GENERATION New Power Soul (NPG) Another month, another [The Artist formerly known as Prince] album. Thankfully, this one is limited to one disc and isn't without its moments: The warm funk jam ''When U Love Somebody'' or the ballad ''Until U R in My Arms Again'' proves he can still write a melody. But most of Soul consists of simplistic party-man chants with inane lyrics (he's ''layin' phat claims to the New Power booty,'' indeed). Now that he runs his own label, [The Artist formerly known as Prince] can crank out as many of these disposable records as he wants; sadly, it looks like he might. C
