The Cinderella story meets girl power in Ever After, an unwieldy, uneven, but nevertheless unexpectedly witty production: Drew Barrymore plays a self-starting heroine who relies on her brains, decency, and blooming physical health to win the heart of a prince (Dougray Scott), much to the apoplexy of her histrionic stepmother (Anjelica Huston). Best performance by a queen: the ever wonderful Judy Parfitt as the prince's worldly-wise mother. B-
