MR. NICE GUY Jackie Chan (1998, New Line, PG-13, $103.99) Poor Jackie Chan. Apparently, someone decided that for the already congenial chopsocky legend to break out in the States, he had to become an aw-shucks cartoon. The result is this serviceable but incredibly lightweight fare, in which Chan plays a famed Australian television chef(!) who comes into possession of an incriminating videotape that makes him a target for both an Italian-Aussie drug lord and a ragtag street gang (think GoodFellas meets The Warriors). The handful of clever, colorful fight scenes -- particularly a lengthy melee at a construction site that Chan turns into a virtual playground of weaponry -- make this just barely worthwhile; the rest of the time, fans of Chan's darker Hong Kong actioners may be tempted to deliver a kick or two themselves -- at the TV. B-
