Music Review: 'Confessions of Fire' (1998)

EW's GRADE
C

Details Lead Performance: Cam'ron; Genres: Hip-Hop/Rap, R&B

After hearing the single ''Horse and Carriage,'' with its rollicking beats and camaraderie between Cam'ron and his round-the-way pal Mase, listeners were set for a debut to get their booties shaking. Confessions isn't that album. Cam'ron's Mase-like flow has him talking over beats, but instead of Mase's adenoidal flavor, Cam delivers repetitive sing-songy intonation and ballad-like refrains that make you wonder if he's going for rap, R&B, or spoken word.
