SLUMS OF BEVERLY HILLS (R) Tamara Jenkins' comic drama about growing up Jewish and hand-to-mouth in the shadow of 1970s Southern California affluence has a big heart, strong voice, and original sense of humor. Natasha Lyonne shines as a big-busted teen learning about sex while holding the household together for her two brothers and distracted, divorced father (enduringly complex Alan Arkin). At times zaniness threatens to exhaust the novelty of Jenkins' set-up. But more often, her integrity keeps the story light and warm. B+
