Deviled Spam

Unsung Heroes Of The Net

Want to Cash in on Cappuccino? See the Naked Girls of Stalingrad? Those uninvited E-mails known as spam hog nearly half the traffic on some networks. Enter Sunil Paul and his spam-jammer company Bright Light Technologies. In late July, Bright Light (www.brightlight.com) began distributing to Internet service providers the beta version of Bright Mail, a software package designed to annihilate spam through filtering devices and human staffers who sift through E-ads in case that eccentric millionaire's offer of an absolutely free lifetime honorarium turns out to be a legit correspondence. ''E-mail is the Rodney Dangerfield of the Internet,'' says Paul. With Bright Light, it may get some respect at last.
