Since there's only one skimpy season's worth of material to work with, that the Ally McBeal: The Totally Unauthorized Guide by Kathy Mitchell exists at all is incontrovertible evidence that the world's most ethereal barrister has us firmly in her bony grip. Crimped by copyright crackdowns, however, this fondly caustic pseudonymous author is reduced to imagining what might stock Ally's medicine cabinet (lots of feminine-hygiene products) or what might be on her bookshelf (lots of Judy Blume novels), and halfheartedly parsing the astrological signs of fellow cast members. And even for fierce McBealies, eight pages of Six Degrees of Calista Flockhart is simply eight pages too many. C
